Chia originated in Mexico where the seed was a staple in the ancient Aztec diet. Chia seeds were an important food for the Aztecs and Mayans and were prized for their ability to provide sustainable energy. Despite their ancient history as a dietary staple, chia seeds have only recently been recognized as a superfood.
Chia seeds are one of the most nutritious foods on the planet. They are a powerhouse of fiber, protein, Omega-3 fatty acids and various micronutrients. The mucilage in chia seeds helps improve digestion and helps sooth our GI. Including chia seeds as part of a healthy diet may help improve cardiovascular risks, such as lowering cholesterol, triglycerides and blood pressure
